At InVOLve, we are dedicated to fostering personal growth and social inclusion by providing education, training, and opportunities that help individuals thrive and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
The building now known as InVOLve House in Magherafelt has stood at the heart of the town since 1818, originally constructed as a corn store and grain market by local landlords. Measuring 50 feet long and 20 feet wide, it featured upper-level storerooms and a ground-floor storefront.
In 1830, a dedicated grain market was added at the rear, complete with a crane and bell on the east side, which was rung to signal the market’s opening.
On 29 August 1936, the historic structure took on a new life as the Picture House Magherafelt, drawing a full crowd of 600 moviegoers for its grand opening. Films such as The Last Outpost and Rocky Mountain Mystery marked the beginning of its cinematic legacy. Over the decades, it became affectionately known as the Classic Cinema, eventually operating two screening rooms before closing its doors in December 1999.
Following a period of dereliction, the building’s fortunes were revived in 2013 when the former Magherafelt District Council invested £250,000 to transform it into a vibrant community hub.
Reborn as InVOLve House, it became the headquarters of the Mid-Ulster Volunteer Centre, housing a team dedicated to supporting local community development. From grain market to cinema to community centre, InVOLve House remains a cornerstone of connection and civic life in Magherafelt playing a vital role in empowering people and enriching the local area through collaboration and community-drive initiatives.
At InVOLve House, our passionate and experienced board are committed to fostering growth and social involvement across the community. Each member brings unique skills and expertise, working together to create a welcoming environment where individuals can learn, connect, and achieve their goals.
